Asphalt Shingles
Asphalt shingles are the most well-liked
shingle among U.S. residential roofing. This particular
type of shingle is very simple to install and has the added
perk of being reinforced with organic or fiberglass materials.
It is also the most inexpensive product. Cost is determined
by a variety of factors including the slope of the roof,
geographical location, type of shingle, and the involvedness
of the project.
Asphalt shingles have a high resistance
to fire and a long durable life time. However, shingles
in cooler climates tend to last longer than those in warmer
climates and proper attic ventilation has been known to
extend to its life time. Other factors contributing to the
life expectancy include the slope of the roof (higher sloped
roofs last longer), the color of the roof (lighter colors
last longer), and exposure to the sun.
Common types of asphalt shingles include
the basic three-tab shingle, dimensional shingles, the angle-lap
shingle, and the no cut out shingle. There are also custom
shingles made to intimate other materials such as slate
and cedar. There are numerous colors and styles available
to enhance the design of your home. In addition, asphalt
shingles are available in 20-50 year warranties depending
on their thickness. These warranties will protect against
manufacturing defects, but do not offer a guaranteed protection
against damages to the interior of the building.
