Kitchen Faucets and Sinks
The kitchen sink is a key component that
is essential for everyday functionality and also used to
compliment the design of your kitchen. It is important to
consider the wide variety of shapes, materials, and sizes
that your kitchen sink can come in. Many homeowners are
particularly interested in the depth of a kitchen sink.
Material is also high on the importance list and prices
will vary depending on which material you select. Different
materials offer unique advantages and disadvantages.
For general use, the most common style
is a double bowl sink, typically 33 by 22 inches in size.
Depending on your personal preference, you can choose between
having both bowls equal in width and depth, or make them
unequal. In addition to general use, a deeper sink used
for heavy clean-up is also quite common and is usually referred
to as an inset sink. Make sure to browse through the different
manufacturers for the design and material that works best
for you.
When it comes to selecting a sink material,
remember that the kitchen sink compliments the design presented
by your countertops and cabinetry. Stainless steal is considered
the most widely used kitchen sink material because it requires
very low maintenance and is long-lasting. Other options
include cast iron, enameled steal, fireclay, soapstone,
solid surface and composites.
In addition to shape, size and material,
other important considerations involved the frame of the
sink and the way in which it is mounted. As far as framing
goes, you have the option of having your sink fully framed
by your countertop, or having it extend slightly outward
creating the "apron front." The way in which you decide
to mount your sink will greatly affect the overall appeal
of your kitchen. There are four main ways to mount a kitchen
sink which include top mounting, under mount, tile in, and
flush mount.
As far as faucets are concerned, there
are a number of different styles to select from. Each style
offers unique functionality, color and material. Materials
include chrome, brass, copper, nickel, and even plastic
molds. Also, faucets are made in several different designs
which include compression-style, cartridge, disk and ball.
Once again, it is important to browse through the different
manufacturers. Some homeowners select their facets solely
based on brand name.
